This is a very interesting canister vacuum from one of the finest vacuum engineers around. The Miele S4812 Hybrid is based on the earlier S4 range and is probably one of the first full powered canister vacuums that is equipped with lithium-ion batteries that provide you with complete freedom of mobility and a limitless vacuuming range with quick switching between mains power and outright battery mode.

This vacuum would suit you if you are the type that doesn’t want interruptions with messy cables in your way, or you fancy cleaning the car where there is no electricity source to plug in to because the Miele S4812 Hybrid allows you to vacuum with no cable length restrictions when in battery mode.

The luxurious Hybrid comes with an 1800 watts motor and utilises various power settings right from your handle control area allowing for various flooring or carpet types of all pile sizes and upholstery too.

Lithium-ion batteries can operate the Hybrid S4812 vacuum at up to 600 Watts power for a duration of up to twenty minutes on one fully charged session. Surprisingly when vacuuming on mains electricity, the cable can be unplugged as you vacuum to enable the lithium battery power to take over and you can just carry on vacuuming without any stopping or altering anything.

The Hybrid is also one of the quietest vacuum cleaners around with the ingenious use of it’s own ‘silence settings’ which is such an excellent feature that gently merges the lowest possible noise output with the optimum power level needed for the best possible cleaning outcome. With pollution so high at the moment in most western countries the Miele Hybrid is completely safe to use for allergy and asthma sufferers.

A standard H.E.P.A. certification for the entire vacuum cleaner is provided, which means that a high percentage of unhealthy airborne dust particles are trapped by the installed filter, which uses 9 different levels of filtration for a very high standard of cleanliness and dust retention.

When looking for a vacuum cleaner the first thing you should look out for is it’s ease of use – therefore manoeuvrability with the Miele S4812 Vacuum is very smooth and effortless with the very easy on your arms 360 degrees swivel joint which makes it so much easier to navigate around furniture and has a wide vacuuming range of just under 11 metres. The easy grip ergonomic handle and automatic electric cable rewind facility make life that little bit easier for you when vacuuming.

One of the most important questions about this canister vacuum that most people want to find out is concerning the battery operated mode that produces 600 watt power output when the Hybrid is not plugged in mains mode. It is important to know if the suction power is strong enough on battery mode. And does it provide me with good dust pick up power?

My personal conclusion is that using this vacuum as a capable portable or cordless vacuum is a practicable alternative – especially when you compare the similarity of the Hybrid S4812 with the vast amount of cordless and handheld vacuum cleaners on the market that will produce nowhere near the 600 watts power that this canister vacuum performs as a cordless option on it’s lithium-ion battery operation.

I must admit that I was a little doubtful at first regarding the amount of suction power or dust pick up ability generated when the Miele Hybrid is in it’s portable battery mode, but was pleasantly surprised at the suction or pick up power this Miele canister accomplished when I tested it on deliberately placed biscuit crumbs which I rubbed into my vacuum cleaner test carpet.

The Hybrid is highly recommended if you want a good high performance cleaner without the trouble of tripping up over messy electric cables, or you want to take it outdoors to vacuum your car interior for the 20 minutes vacuuming time that the lithium ion battery will permit you on one full charge.
